Why it is good to experience different cultures
When we mix around with other people, we influence each other. If we have the chance to visit other countries for a few weeks or months, we can see how other people behave there and learn something from them.
Each culture has its own values. Some values might benefit us, while some make us worse off. When we interact with people from other cultures, it’s wise to spot these values. If possible, adopt some of the positive values and avoid the negative ones. Doing so will enrich your own personal culture.
The Nordic people read a lot and have close relationship with nature. This is a positive trend I learnt while visiting Northern Europe. Back at home, the Malays are sentimental and the Chinese are industrious. If we can interact with more people around the world and adopt their positive values, imagine how well we can improve our life.
Let’s not hide in our own cultural ghetto. Go out and see the world. You will bring home some cultural treasure.

I cannot agree with you more here. Most of my life has been spent living in countries and cultures that were not my own. Today I teach in a country that is vastly different then home. However, like you, I’ve striven to observe and absorb the positive and discard the negative aspects of each culture.
I especially like your reference to a “cultural ghetto”.

Hi. thanks for reading my blog.
The diversity of world culture is very beautiful, because we can learn from others – both good and bad aspects.
Cultural ghetto is sad… it shows that some people cannot integrate themselves into local society.
