Which language should I choose to learn

Are you interested to learn a new language but not sure which one to choose? Maybe this article will help you. Don’t throw a dice to make your decision yet.

One way to pick a new lingo is seeing how many people or countries use certain language. Chinese is used by the most human beings in the world. Mandarin, also known as Pu Tong Hua, is the official language of China and is widely used in Chinese communities throughout the world. Fujianese (also called Hokkien) and Cantonese are two very widely spoken Chinese dialects in the world.

German is the official language used in Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. If you have the intention of living near the Alps for a long time, German should be part of your tongue. German is also a good stepping stone for you to learn other Germanic languages such as Dutch, Swedish, and Norwegian. These languages have similarities, which allow you to learn them fast if you have foundation in German.

Some Nordic countries like Norway, Denmark, and Finland have Swedish as their official tongue (Sweden lies in the middle of these countries). If you have the passion to live in Scandinavian region, Swedish is the lingua franca to go. The good news is that many Scandinavians can speak good English. That saves you a lot of headache.

Spanish is widely spoken especially in Latin America. Since many countries use it, you might as well learn it. And then watch the original Ugly Betty in Spanish. Other languages such as Italian have the same root as Spanish so it’s a good stepping stone for you to learn other Romanic languages.

Have you chosen your next language?

one thing to add on, Japanese language is rather easier to catch up if you’ve good basic of Chinese, since many of Japanese language elements are taken from ancient Chinese, for example the hiragana and katakana.

I was surprised to see no mention of Esperanto here.

Take a look at http://www.esperanto.net

Esperanto works! I’ve used it in speech and writing - and sung in it - in a dozen countries over recent years.

Thanks for sharing.
Language experts categorize Chinese and Japanese in different language groups. China belongs to Sino-Tibetan language group.
Maybe the similarities between these languages help you to master both. :)
