The Woman who sings the Olympics theme song twice

This is a surprise post for today’s Tiny Tidbit column. It surprised me as well. After hearing this super good news, I went hyper-excited and I can’t wait to spread this good news to the world.

Sarah Brightman will be singing the official 2008 Beijing Olympics theme song together with a Chinese singer. This will be her second time singing the Olympics theme song (what an honour!). Her first Olympic theme song was Amigo Para Siempre for the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, Spain.

I shall quote the news directly from Sarah’s official website:

We are very pleased that we can finally announce that Sarah, together with the Chinese singer Liu Huan, will be singing the official theme song to the 2008 Beijing Olympics theme song!

Nearly 100,000 people will watch the opening ceremony in the Bird’s Nest Olympic stadium, with billions more expected to tune in worldwide to watch the extravaganza.

The song, whose identity has been carefully kept secret via its omission from all three of the opening-ceremony rehearsals, will be revealed at the conclusion of the ceremony, which commences at 8pm Beijing time Friday night.

For further details, please visit the Official Olympics website http://en.beijing2008.cn as well as the transcripts of the press conference at http://en.beijing2008.cn/live/pressconference/mpc/n214507725.shtml

Needless to say, this is a tremendous honor, and we are thrilled that Sarah will once again be singing the theme song to the Olympic Games! Many of you already know that she also sung the theme song for the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games with Jose Carreras, to a global audience of 2 billion.

With that said, enjoy the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games!

Sarah has also sung the theme songs for other sporting events. I posted one of these songs on this post.

Now I present you Sarah’s first official Olympic Games theme song, Amigo Para Siempre:
