How to learn new software
Learning new software can be challenging, depending on how steep the learning curve is. From my experience, learning new software with proper method helps to speed up the learning process.
After installing the software, try to get used to the user interface of the software. Hover your mouse cursor over each icon or button on the tool bars and a text describing its function will appear. Click it and see how it responses. Explore the menu bar and see what’s in it. This step makes you feel familiar with the software and later it’s important to increase your productivity. A user who uses the icons and menu function well is far more efficient than a user who doesn’t.
Next, open up the user manual and look for the tutorials. A tutorial is a step by step instruction for you to solve a sample problem. It’s easy because you just need to follow the instructions to use the software. Go through one or two (or more) tutorials and you should get a feel of how to use the software.
After that, go deeper by reading the details in the user guide. It explains every function of the software. Go through this step to build a solid foundation for you to use the software. You might need to refer to the user guide in the future when you get stuck with the software.
Finally, apply the software frequently on real life problems. With experience, you will become a power user.

Different software has different learning curve. Try learning engineering software like ABAQUS or Pro/ENGINEER and build a model or stress analysis report with it
