Gigapedia is as useful as Wikipedia
Imagine you want to buy a book, but it’s as expensive as a gold bar. You try to download its eBook version on internet but Google and all the PDF finders fail to get the result you want. I faced this problem before, but I have found the solution.
Last week my good colleague showed me a website called Gigapedia. He told me that I can download a lot of high quality eBooks from this site. It’s the place where he himself downloaded tons of engineering reference books. I just need to register, search for the book that I want, and go to the download link page to get the eBook (the eBooks are hosted on other file sharing platforms such as megaupload and rapidshare. Gigapedia provides only the links to the shared file).
I was amazed to find the book that I was seeking for months! It’s like a treasure chest dropping in front of me. Now I never look back and keep downloading good stuff from it. It’s my favorite source of knowledge other than Wikipedia.

Thanks for this, but I went to gigapedia and searched for “andragogy”. No results. Went to wikipedia and found a decent entry.

And what did you do with the decent entry you found from wikipedia? Download it? I don’t think so…..seems you’re missing the point of the topic……gigapedia is for finding links to books…..wikipedia is an encyclopedia

What’s illegal in your country might be legal in mine.
Of course it is not illegal in your country to steal. And last time I checked books are sold for far less that they are worth so this ‘goldbar’ theory is just an excuse to keep taking what is not yours.

Well whatever anybody might say. I have been using gigapedia for the past 2+ years and it has been an academic lifeline. For those of us that live and work in the third world/developing countries what others take for granted could actually be unavailable to us books etc and I think one of the most painful things is limitations of ones mind and knowledge by virtue of where one was born or lives. Legal or illegal gigapedia has been a wonderful experience.
How do you know that the site is legally entitled to host these works for download?

Hey Chief, can you remove this blog post instead of sounding out to the whole world? When everybody and their dog finds out about sites like this, they get shut down. Do us all a favor.
The website is great. It is also NOT illegal. There are different users sharing their own books. I have benefitted a lot from this website. Moreover, had I not been able to download these books I would have never bought them and I could have never used such references.
Gigapedia is a cheater
The following is what I encounter.
My account password no longer work today, even though I have made some contribition to this web site.
This year, I tried to start donation to gigapedia, but no positive responses from Smiley or anybody have been received. I donated money via paypal . I did not ask for anything, even though in one of your article (regulation posted by Smiley), he promised to change the membership status to regular one for people who donate. The one who got my money is Irina Ivanova.

I was deeply frustrated.
Normally, culturologists and politicians complain that people are reading less and less, and in the developed countries this is becoming worse and worse. This means that the market for the publishing houses decreasing!
Gigapedia is doing a great job by giving the opportunity to the reading people, and also by increasing the market for the publishing houses
It is also a great opportunity for the people from the third world to become more educated. At a certain point they may buy the book they are “black-reading”.
I couldn’t get on the site it says search disabled. and registration disabled. What to i do? It is gigapedia.com right?
U must be a dimwit to make a post like this.

I found this site back at 2006/2007. At that time, find ebooks dan download them online is not an easy job, especially if you don’t have any rapidshare account or you live in third world country. I don’t know how illegal gigapedia.com is, but this site really help me in academic life.
If you can’t use your account, that means you break their rules. Please read the rules first. One of them is don’t ask any ebook or access gigapedia.com using proxy.

You know gigapedia is migrating to a new site where you can download books without registering so the registrations are closed. And you might have made a mistake in typing your name

I hate the lawyers who invented intellectual property. Also I don’t see many authors and publishers abiding by it themselves because if they were then they should all pay to all families of anyone who invented or published anything before them on which their work is based. Else I would like to see a book on physics excluding Newtonian mechanics and Einstein’s relativity and Maxwell Electricity and… etc, because all the authors who wrote on the subject used “intellectual property” formulas of those scientists without paying a dime to them or their descendants.
Electronic books by virtue of being intangible paperless entities should be made free to all but this isn’t how the world works and this is why all e-readers like kindle and others do not support any of formats we used to read our books in. So the best is to spread a good news about free sites by mouth and not by microphones
